The new-look Department for Energy is a major win for CAR26, according to its director Lois Perry.

According to Lois Perry: “The Prime Minister has taken a significant step in addressing the country’s energy security by creating a dedicated Department for Energy”.

“The Department will ensure that the country has a reliable and steady source of energy, especially during times of high demand,” she says.

“One of the ways the Department plans to achieve this is expected be prioritising the use of fossil fuels during the winter months, when renewable energy sources such as wind and solar may not be as effective”.

“It is widely accepted that fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas, have been the primary sources of energy for many years and continue to play a significant role in the energy mix of many countries. They are considered to be reliable sources of energy because they can be stored and transported easily, making them readily available whenever they are needed. Additionally, they can be burned to generate heat, which is particularly important during the colder months when demand for heating rises”.

“The new Department for Energy being set up by the Prime Minister is an important step in ensuring energy security for the country. By prioritising fossil fuels during the winter months, the group aims to ensure a reliable source of energy,” she says.
